Legendary Tones Mr.Scary mod in MArshall DSL (iPhone Recording)
this thing is ridiculous....
I've always loved the sound of the old Marshall JCM2000 DSL 100.
Awesome Marshall tone, tons of gain, just fucking fantastic.
BUT...
... this deep switch was absolutely useless, with it in the OUT position, the sound is paper thin and with it IN it's really boomy and unusable for fast thrashy mutes.
the Legendary Tones Mr.Scary mod fixed all that in the most pleasing way.
so I just reduced the gain on the amp (lead1 instead of lead 2), and made up for the loss of distortion and saturation with the Mr.Scary a bit later in the chain.
this plug'n'play mod also has a low switch, which I had disengaged here (and the deep switch on the amp IN).
what I got was all the sound and tone I love from this amp, but it cleared up the low end significantly without making it sound thin.
Now it does fast thrash palm mutes like a champ (this is straight in, no boost).
please excuse the horrible playing, this is quite literally the first time in 3 years that I touched a guitar, but I just wanted to show you why I'm so stoked on this.
This isn't a proper recording of course, it's just my iPhone sitting on the table resting against a big af swimbait, exactly like the studio pros are doing it...🙄
but either way, ignore the playing and iPhone mic quality, you'll still hear how fucking tight this awesome underrated amp has become.

Fly Rig/Direct Recording Solution: Mooer 005 Preamp through Mooer Radar
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
Mooer sent me some things to try...and so I did. This is their take on that EVH preamp, I'm running it through the Radar IR Loader, so what you're hearing is that direct recording, no external boost, amp or cab etc... pretty neat little fly rig, innit?

Stock 1975 Marshall Super Lead MKII Doing Metal?!
Переглядів 22 тис.3 роки тому
yes, indeed! this is my stock 1975 Marshall Super Lead MKII (well, stock except for the filter caps, some pots, jacks and head shell, which had to be replaced due to age). Bossted with the Boss SD-1W set to "stock" mode, so no extra gain or anything over the regular old sd-1. sm57 and a bit of r121 on a Mesa cab, no post processing. Shows that with a tiny bit of boost you can get those old amps...
Soldano Hot Mod vs. Legendary Tones V2 in a Marshall JMP 2203
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
I've always been a massive fan of the original Soldano Hot Mod (this neat little device that turns your Marshall into a fire breathing monster without having to physically mod your valuable amp), I was lucky enough to hunt down a couple of them while they were still available on the used marked, but I was always a bit reluctant to use them much because finding replacement tubes at a reasonable ...

so my friend was just swinging by and started jamming on my lovely Siggi Braun Custom Shop Tele.... I couldn't help but randomly throw an sm57 in front of the speaker... Literally just used whatever settings the amp was on and the position I happened to put the 57 in, just eyeballing it..zero post processing whatsoever, but I think it's still quite obvious what the combination Brian-Siggi-Puret...
Airis Effects Nemesis Preamp Test (Direct Tone)

Here's a clip of the magnificent Airis Nemesis Preamp. this was recorded without a boost or amp, just straight into the Nemesis, recorded through the Mooer Radar IR loader. No tubes were harmed during the making of this clip! but honestly, if you're looking for a sick travel rig and don't need to cover a plethora of musical styles and switching, the Nemesis might be for you! Here I just used an...
Cleaning Penny + Giles Motorised Fader in Digidesign D-Control

I've recently been cleaning all the faders in my beloved D-Control and people were asking me how I'm doing it. well, here's a quick walkthrough video of how I am doing it. I'm sure it's not the only way and I'm sure people will correct me on things, but this is how it works for me ;) sorry for the slightly awkward video, but it was a bit difficult to keep the fader in the shot while still makin...
Soldano Avenger boosted with Kuro Custom Audio P.h.A.
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
What can I say, I just absolutely love this amp to bits... The Kuro P.h.A. is a sick pedal to shape the tone slightly, get it a bit more or less tight, boost some mids, cut some lows or highs, add some "push" etc, all without changing the original tone of the amp (unless desired). Here I just used it to slightly tighten up the low end on fast mutes by boosting the mids slightly, which resulted ...

Gotta say I'm quite impressed with this little thing... don't let the small footprint confuse you, it's a full blown head tone- and volume wise. Kuro Custom Audio P.h.A. Demo (boost, preamp, overdrive, distortion)

I'm checking out the P.h.A pedal that the lovely folks at Kuro sent me to try out. I usually am not using distortion pedals but I love mid boosts, overdrives etc...this thing seems to be really versatile and can be set to be an awesome boost for an already overdriven amp...you can tighten up the lows for fast playing or make them explode for doom stuff...all that without altering the basic tone...

The awesome KHE Amp And Cabinet Selector is just one of the most amazing tools you can have in the studio, so I thought I'd quickly show you what it does. It's close, but the amp has a slightly more open sound. I love my Kemper, but it does have that slight upper-mid heavy, almost cocked wah thing. Just enough to tell the difference.

Dude come back to developing this channel man. All the BS vendor rep UA-camrs suck and we need a professional sound engineer who can shred to show us what gear ACTUALLY is worth a damn dude. About 12-15 years ago you put me onto the Uberschall and it was the best decision I ever made. Now we need to see some legitimate non-biased demos from dudes like you!!!

That tone... It hits hard but the note clarity is excellent. Credit to the performance, also. I play bass, have been considering a boosted plexi setup for the blended dirt side of my pedalboard, and I think this video just sold me on that idea.

Actully older emgs are compressed, but the newer ones are not. If you record the newer models and look at the wave length, they are not chopped off like the older models which are compressed. There were some component supplier changes in 2019 that impacted the overall headroom of some pickup models (including the 81). Newer 81s produce a signal that is less compressed, which is a huge benefit for clean tones but they might not interact quite the same with your gain channels and/or pedals. The best workaround we’ve found is to place a compressor/limiter pedal first in the chain (or immediately after a tuner) and set it to have a “hard knee” response. Some compressor pedals have a dedicated “limiter” setting to cover this application, and others respond like a limiter as you turn up the compression ratio." - EMG Engineer

Man, I'd pay good money for a Rev F Boogie amp in good condition. Oh the regrets I have not keeping the one I had back in the early 2000s that I traded in to Guitar Center for approximately $600 like a complete dumbass. Honestly, I think in retrospect I regret that decision more so than any of my four (4) ex-wives.
